These Landseer style glass lions were produced towards the end of the 19th century in various different colours. Standing at just 2 1/2″ inches tall and 4 1/2″ inches in length, they are much smaller than the, almost identical John Derbyshire versions, standing at a more majestic 5″ inches in height and 7 1/2″ inches in length. Debate rages as to whether John Derbyshire also produced these smaller versions, but with no anchor mark present I have my doubts. Having handled several of these smaller versions, they often contain inclusions and rough areas which are not in keeping with the finer quality of the John Derbyshire factory. Having said that, I am rather attached to these little beasts.
